D.O.V.E. (Diversion of Violent Episodes)
TAPPS is presenting a new class specifically developed by Dr. Kirk Heimlich for school administrators, teachers, counselors and other professionals working in a hospital, doctor's office or clinic environment.
The D.O.V.E. (Diversion of Violent Episodes) program was developed to assist individuals in the understanding and management of aggressive, disruptive or violent situations. Instructed by Kirk W. Heimlich Ph.D., LSP (National Board Certified), you will learn:
Communication/Verbal Techniques |
Understanding the Causes of Aggression |
Methods of Verbal and Physical De-escalation |
Physical Management and Body Kinetics |
Four Areas of Managing Aggression |
Types of Aggression |
Crisis Sequence |
Power-Authority-Control Assessment |
How to Assess the Threat of Aggression |
Individual Reaction Style Assessment |
The D.O.V.E. program is intended for anyone who wants to gain insight and skills in diffusing potentially volatile encounters. This information could be used to assist in the management of an explosive or disruptive child or adult in one’s own life or to create greater awareness and confidence in dealing with “others” in the community or professional setting who are displaying aggressive or threatening behaviors.
The primary focus of the program is to better understand the causes of aggressive or disruptive behavior and how to assess the “Goals” or “Causes” of the potentially dangerous actions.
Once that is established effective intervention methods can be applied to regain “Control” of the situation.
